Notting Hill Nursery Carnival

11 August 2003

On Monday 11 August, the Mayor of the Royal Borough joined over 1000 people at Notting Hill Nursery Carnival in Kensington Memorial Park. Now in its 15 year, the Carnival brought together over 13 nurseries, playgroups, Mothers and Toddlers clubs who joined in with the cultural celebrations.

The Mayor presented prizes to children involved in both art and costume competitions. Winner of the Costume competition (pictured) was The Adventure Centre, Wornington Road. The Mayor commented: "The enthusiasm of the children was infectious as they danced their hearts away."

Other events included a Junior Steel Band Competition, Baby Dry Derby, Glamorous Mothers and Buggy Competition.

Lee Woodford Chivers of the Children's' and Parents' Carnival Association said: "All the groups and individuals involved in this year's event have worked so hard. The array of colours, flags, costumes and cultures was fantastic and makes everyone feel so proud to be a member of the community. As always, we had over 200 children in the costume competition and it was very hard to pick a winner. It was truly a wonderful day which was reflected by the shear number of happy smiling faces."
