TMO homes safer than ever

20 August 2003

Royal Borough council housing is safer than ever thanks to an impressive 100 percent gas appliance check by the Tenant Management Organisation (TMO).

By law all council properties must have their gas appliances checked annually but in reality the task is an onerous one rarely completed anywhere in the country. This year for the first time ever the Kensington and Chelsea TMO has gained 100 percent access to all properties and given gas appliances a clean bill of health.

Gordon Perry, Chief Executive of the TMO said: "This is an impressive result achieved only through the hard work and perseverance of our officers. Gaining 100 percent access to council properties is extremely difficult and demands high levels of patience and skill in dealing with uncooperative tenants.

"We now have an accurate asset register which can only enhance our Decent Homes Strategy and ensures all our residents have safe appliances."

Notes for Editors
The TMO Decent Homes Strategy aims to bring 100 percent of council properties in-line with the Government's Decency Standards by 2007.
