Travel Awareness Week

15 September 2003

What effect does the way you travel around the Capital have on the environment? This week (16 to 22 September) people in the Royal Borough will get a chance to learn more about how different forms of travel impact on their environment.

The events planned for Travel Awareness Week are designed to promote sustainable transport options and will be of interest to all ages. Members of the public can use the week to find out more about new initiatives such as the City Car Club, an innovative way to have the regular use of a car without the expense of owning one, how to get the best out of their bicycle or walking in the Borough.

There will also be storytellers in the Borough's local libraries to entertain and inform the Borough's younger travellers!

Councillor Daniel Moylan, Cabinet Member for Planning and Transportation said: "We can travel around the Borough in many ways. I hope that the events that are scheduled for Travel Awareness Week will highlight both the benefits and drawbacks of the travel choices we make. We are lucky that the Royal Borough is such a beautiful borough to walk around and the Council does much to encourage this while recognizing that for some journeys a car or a bicycle may be required."
