Storytime encourages kids to 'Be Bright, Be Seen' this winter25 September 2003Children from St Cuthbert with St Matthias Primary School in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, found themselves part of a special Road Safety storytime at Brompton Library today (Thursday, September 25), as part of National Road Safety Week. The event, running in libraries all this week, involves a storyteller telling a tale about a special journey. With the story specially commissioned for National Road Safety Week (September 22 - 26), the focus this year is on making child pedestrians safer on the streets. The Royal Borough campaign aims to promote the theme of 'Be Bright, Be Seen', for children walking to school this winter. It encourages children to wear something bright so they can be seen easily as the nights start to draw in. The campaign also includes displays on Being Seen and Being Safe, free sticker postcards, and bookmarks in all the children's libraries. Councillor Frances Taylor, Chairman of the Public Transport and Road Safety Action Group, also listened to the story. She said: "Children need to be aware of road safety as they walk to and from school. The 'Be Bright, Be Seen' message is vitally important for child pedestrians, and this campaign is an imaginative way of engaging children."
