Council speeds on the information superhighway14 October 2003From this month (October 2003), interested residents and others can find out more about the big stories affecting the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea when they receive RBKC Direct, a new electronic publication from the Council. As Issue 01 arrives in email inboxes, local residents and organisations will be able to read the very latest on Congestion Charging, the Chelsea-Hackney Line and the cost of NOT recycling. Paper copies are also being sent to those who do not have email, although the printed version of RBKC Direct will be phased out ultimately as part of the Council's drive towards e-government and reducing waste. Future editions will carry news on the Council's other big initiatives and at the same time give updates on stories covered in previous editions, plus local views on those topics. Tailored to meet the information needs of residents and local organisations that are seriously engaged in local affairs, RBKC Direct will give readers a more in-depth look at some of the issues affecting the Council, and encourage readers to tell the Council their views on the subjects that matter most to them. Council Leader, Councillor Merrick Cockell said: "This is the first new Council news publication for over 30 years. When it comes to the big issues affecting Kensington and Chelsea, we want local people to know everything that we know as soon as we know about it. RBKC Direct gives people an incisive view of the Council's policies and priorities in a cost effective way and encourages them to let us know what they think." RBKC Direct is also available on the Council's website, and can be found at www.rbkc.gov.uk/rbkcdirect. For more information contact Media and Communications.
