Tributes to Cllr Dr Hanham
Councillor Dr Iain Hanham, who served the
residents of Brompton ward as a Councillor since 2002, has
died.
As a member of the Council, Dr Hanham served
on a wide range of committees covering every aspect of Council
business. In 2004 he was Deputy Mayor. He also
represented Kensington and Chelsea on a number of outside bodies,
including the Royal Marsden Hospital Trust.
In his professional life, Iain Hanham had been
a consultant oncologist.
The Leader of the Council, Councillor Sir
Merrick Cockell, said:
“Despite Iain’s obvious professional
expertise, it was his personal qualities that made the deepest
impression. He was unassuming and civil in a way that is very
rarely encountered these days. And his determination to do
his duty was humbling; though clearly very ill, he was attending
his meetings almost to the last, his fortitude was quite frankly
awesome.
“He will be greatly missed by his friends and
colleagues at the Royal Borough.”
Commenting on the news, The Mayor, Councillor
James Husband, said:
“I wholeheartedly endorse Merrick’s
comments. Iain had a distinguished career as a consultant
before joining the Council in 2002. He brought considerable
skill and kindness to his role of serving the residents and he will
be missed.”
Councillor Dr. Hanham is survived by his wife,
Baroness Hanham, who is a former Leader of the Council and
currently serving as Minister for Communities and Local Government,
and by his two children, James and Emma.
An obituary will appear in a future edition of
the Council newspaper, Royal Borough.
