Recruitment of Independent Person
Voluntary role (£500 per annum token remuneration to cover
costs)
At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea we are looking to
recruit an 'Independent Person' to act in a consultative role to
help the Council maintain its high ethical standards.
The person appointed will form a pool with the Independent
Person already appointed by the London Borough of Hammersmith &
Fulham, from which they would be called upon to act by either
Council. The role will require the successful applicant to be
available for consultation if an allegation of a breach of the
Members’ Code of Conduct is received, and to attend meetings.
Any such meetings will take place at Hammersmith Town Hall, King
Street, London W6 9JU or at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street,
London W8 7NX.
Some of the fundamental skills and qualities required of the
post include the following:
- honesty and integrity
- fair-mindedness and impartiality
- mature and sound temperament
- good communication skills
- commitment and reliability
But we also wish to recruit someone with both an understanding
of people, behaviour and what motivates them, which has been gained
from their own life experiences, as well as the ability to exercise
sound, incisive, objective and proportionate judgement, which
distinguishes the important from the unimportant.
This post is legally restricted. If you
have been a member, co-opted member, Standards Committee member or
officer of either Council in question within the last five years
you will not be able to apply for this position. This is not
a contracted position, but is a long-term appointment.
