Could you adopt?
Have you ever considered adopting? The Royal Borough of
Kensington and Chelsea needs people to adopt children from a wide
variety of cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
The borough is marking National Adoption Week (31 October - 6
November) by making a renewed appeal for adopters, and is also
encouraging people to offer adoption to children who usually wait
the longest such as sibling groups, older children and those with
special needs.
There will be an adoption information evening on Thursday 24
November from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in Committee Rooms 3 and 4 at
Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, W8 7NX.
Cabinet Member for Family and Children's Services, Cllr Baroness
Ritchie, said: "We are always on the lookout for people from every
background to come forward and find out more about adoption. It is
a lifelong commitment but adoption is one of the most rewarding
things you can do.
"I encourage anyone who is considering adopting to attend the
information evening."
Approved adopters in Kensington and Chelsea come from all
backgrounds and cultures, and have adopted children from all over
the UK. The Council's social workers support suitable applicants
every step of the way. Since 2007, 95 per cent of domestic adopters
approved by the Royal Borough have been linked or matched with a
child within a year of approval.
