Public disorder update
For the second night running there have been no reports of
disorder in Kensington and Chelsea.
Council youth workers have been out on the streets over the past
two days talking to youngsters to discourage them from taking part
in any criminal activity and there have been over 100 police
officers, including 53 Special Constables patrolling the
streets.
The police and youth workers will be out again tonight.
Police will continue to work with the Council and partners to
prevent any further disturbances like those experienced on Monday 8
August.
Acting Superintendent Dave Tait, from Kensington and Chelsea
Police, said:
"No disorder has occurred in the past two days with the streets
becoming very quiet (as usual) from midnight onwards,"
"As a result of our investigations into offences committed on the
night of 8 August, a number of search warrants have been
executed.
"Arrests have been made and property recovered. We will be
executing more warrants and making more arrests in the next few
days".
"We continue to robustly pursue all those involved in criminality.
There will be a similar policing presence on the streets
tonight."
DAC Stephen Kavanagh from Territorial Policing has been meeting
with community members during the past few days. He said:
"I again would like to thank the community for its ongoing support
and the truly commendable work that has been undertaken by
community members in helping to bring an end to the current
disorder."
He also added:
“The police and all communities are united in their wish for calm
and an end to all disorder, and the current situation facing London
is one which affects all communities, regardless of age and
ethnicity.
“The police and London's communities are appalled by the current
disorder and together we condemn the violence and criminality. We
will robustly pursue all those involved in criminality. The
Government are due to issue advice on insurance to businesses
tomorrow”.
