Boiler Scrappage Scheme
The Government has announced a new scheme to give households in
England £400 towards the cost of a new boiler in the
pre-Budget report.
Do I qualify for the scheme?
To qualify you need to be a private householder with a working
G-rated boiler (it is likely to be G rated if it is over 15 years
old). You can check if it is eligible on the
Government boiler scrappage scheme website, or by calling
the 'Act on CO2' advice line on tel. 0800 512 012.
How to apply
The scheme is being run by the Energy Savings Trust and details
of how to apply can be obtained from the
Energy Saving Trust website. If you qualify, the Energy Savings
Trust will send you a £400 voucher which can be redeemed once the
work is completed.
Upgrading your boiler can save a household more than £200 a year
and cut CO2 emissions.
If you are on benefits or a low income
If you are on benefits or low income you may want to apply for a
grant to cover the complete cost of the installation or replacement
of an old or inefficient boiler. The Council has a Keep Warm Grant
of up to a maximum of £7,500 for the provision of heating and
insulation. This is available to private householders in
receipt of benefits or on an income of less than £20,000 pa. Please
contact Environmental Health Line 020 7361 3002 and ask for the
Grants Team for more information.
London Warm Zone, working in partnership with Kensington and
Chelsea and six other west London boroughs, can also provide grants
for the installation and replacement of central heating for private
householders on benefits. They will also provide loft and
cavity wall insulation at reduced cost to all private householders
and free to those on benefits. They can be contacted on
0800 389 7286 or on the Warm Zones
website.
