Lifetime tenancies a key feature in new Draft Tenancy Strategy

Commitments to lifetime tenancies, supporting people to remain in their homes and to understand their rights and a proactive approach to preventing homelessness are among the priorities set out in a Draft Tenancy Strategy now open for consultation.

The Draft Strategy sets out Kensington and Chelsea Council’s expectations of tenancies offered by the registered social housing providers in the borough.

Residents, partners and stakeholders have from today (Thursday 18 January) until Thursday 29 February to share their views on the document by taking part in the online consultation.

The priorities in the Draft Tenancy Strategy support some of the housing-related objectives in the latest Council Plan, which sets out how the Council aims to achieve its ambition of creating a greener, safer and fairer borough.

Cllr Sof McVeigh, Lead Member for Housing, said:

 

“A stable home is the bedrock of healthy family life, providing peace of mind and allowing firm foundations to be built.

 

“We’ve committed to providing that certainty by offering lifetime tenancies for our tenants and this Draft Tenancy Strategy calls on every housing provider operating in the borough to do the same.

 

“I encourage anyone with an interest in social housing to look at our proposals and share their thoughts so that we can continue to make housing fairer in Kensington and Chelsea.”
