Kensington and Chelsea Local Involvement Network (LINk)

Background

Local Involvement Network (LINk) is a government initiative that began in April 2008. It aims to help communities gain a voice at a strategic level, and follows on from the former Patient and Public Involvement Forums.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea LINk is a network of local individuals, organisations and groups striving to make their local health and social care services better. It will be launched in October 2008.

The host organisation for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea LINk is Hestia Housing and Support. Hestia's role will be to facilitate - how the LINk evolves will be determined by its membership. To ensure that the LINk is engaged with the local community and is as inclusive as possible, Hestia has targeted over 300 local organisations and groups to inform and build interest in the LINk.

How the LINk is run

The LINk is formally governed by a set policies and procedures based on Hestia’s own. These provide guidelines for anyone participating in the LINk as an elected member of the Executive Committee.

The LINk follows an elective governance structure. Its Executive Committee (Health & Social Care group) is a core group made up of 12 members voted into position by the community (four from voluntary sector organisations, four from local Kensington and Chelsea community networks and four local individuals).

There is the option of becoming a co-opted member. For example, if someone in the community would be good as a member but did not want to stand for election, the Executive Committee could co-opt them as a member. The LINk can do more than discuss.  It will have legal authority to ensure that the health and social services engage with it.

Sub-groups of the LINk include mental health, learning disabilities and young people.

Joining the LINk

Joining the LINk is free and easy, and ensures you have an outlet to voice concerns and opinions on the services you receive in Kensington and Chelsea.
