Permitted development
Certain types of development may not need planning permission.
For some basic guidance visit the Planning Portal’s
‘virtual
house’.
There is also guidance available on permitted development from
the Planning Advisory Service.
Some uses of land, due to their similarities in planning
land-use terms do not require planning permission to change between
them. However, change of use is not always
straightforward.
Due to the nature of the streetscape and architecture in the
Royal Borough, we occasionally withdraw permitted development
rights, using something called an Article IV
Direction. Therefore you are urged not to rely on information
drawn from external web sites in deciding whether your proposal
falls within the boundary of permitted development or not, and we
would encourage you to contact us for a definite view before
proceeding.
