Find the Jubilee gems

29 May 2012

Children with a keen eye for treasure can win some fantastic prizes in the Council's diamond treasure hunt on the King's Road and Kensington High Street over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

If your child is aged between five and 12, join them on the search for diamonds, which will take in some of the best known names in retail. Children can win a selection of fabulous prizes including £100 of toys from Peter Jones, afternoon tea at the Royal Garden Hotel, family tickets for `The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' and a private tour of the War Horse exhibition at the National Army Museum.

Diamond prospectors can take to the King's Road or Kensington High Street and will need to visit each shop shown on the entry form (available online at www.rbkc.gov.uk/diamondhunt and also in the Central Library, Hornton Street or Chelsea Library, King's Road) and search for a picture of a red, white or blue diamond then write down the colour of each diamond on their form.

Completed forms must be handed in to any of the participating shops or returned to the Council at Kensington Town Hall by Wednesday 6 June.

The diamond treasure hunts are for children accompanied by their parents, and will run throughout the bank holiday weekend from Saturday 2 June to Tuesday 5 June 2012.

The successful entrants will be drawn at random and the winners of the star prizes will be invited to a ceremony the following Saturday afternoon (9 June 2012) at the National Army Museum Jubilee Exhibition on Royal Hospital Road where prizes will be presented by the Mayor of the Royal Borough.

Councillor Tim Ahern, Cabinet Member for Planning, said: "The Diamond Jubilee will be a time of great celebration and family fun. I am delighted that so many of our wonderful retailers are getting into the spirit of the Jubilee and taking part in the search for diamonds. I would like to thank all those that have donated such magnificent prizes.

"Young people have very keen eyes so I expect that all of the borough's diamonds will be found."

The event is being co-ordinated by the Council's Neighbourhood Planning Team. For more information contact: neighbourhoodplanning@rbkc.gov.uk
