How to apply for a school place now

If you are seeking a primary or secondary school place immediately for your child, you should get in touch direct with the school you prefer. The school will tell you whether there are places available and how to make an application

School contact details are set out below. Before you approach any school you should read the Royal Borough’s primary and secondary admissions booklets. See the links below Admissions booklets.

How to apply for a school place

Year 7 places

If you are seeking a Year 7 place for your child in September 2009, and you are a resident of Kensington and Chelsea, you must make your application to the Royal Borough's Admissions Team at Kensington Town Hall, no matter where the schools you are applying to may be located. Your application must be sent to the Admissions Team by 24 October 2008.

The Royal Borough will coordinate all the applications which are received on time by exchanging this information with the other local authorities in London.

Parents will be sent a letter on 2 March 2008 telling them whether their application has been successful.

Reception class places

The procedures for applying for a place in reception class are different. Regardless of the borough you live in, if you wish your child to attend a reception class in a Royal Borough primary school, your application must be made to the Admissions Team at Kensington Town Hall.

If your child is due to start primary school in September 2009 or in January 2010, you must do this by 23 January 2009.

Parents will be sent a letter on May 2009 telling them whether their application has been successful.

For more information about how these procedures work, see the booklets below.

Choice Advice

This year the Royal Borough is able to offer parents a service giving independent advice on the local secondary schools which may be available to their children at Year 7. The Choice Advisers service is supplied as part of the Family Information Service (FIS). For more information 020 7361 3302, email at fis@rbkc.gov. uk.

Online school admissions

Parents and carers can apply online for places in Year 7 in September 2009 and in the reception classes of the Royal Borough's primary schools in the 2009 to 2010 academic year.

Online admissions are managed through a secure London-wide portal hosted by the Your London website. You can search for schools via that website go to Your London Online school admissions

Parents and carers may also apply on a paper application form in the traditional way. However, there are advantages in applying online: you will, for example, be able to log in to learn the outcome of your application rather than having to wait for the post. However, applying on-line does not of course make it any more likely that you will be offered a place at any school which you may particularly prefer.

Church of England and Roman Catholic schools in the Royal Borough require parents to provide supplementary information about their application on their own form. You will have to get the form from the school and complete it in the traditional way. To find out which these schools are, go to the page School Admissions - Supplementary Information.

Finally, before submitting your application you will be asked to confirm that you have read and accepted our terms and conditions. You can find these by going to School Admissions - Terms and Conditions.

Data Protection Notice

The personal information that you provide will be handled by the Council in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and will be used for the purpose of handling your application for a school place. Your information will not be used for any other purpose, and will be shared with other local authorities and schools.
