Travel Passes for 16-19 Year Olds

A London Travelcard will only be issued to students aged 16-19 years of age, travelling to their nearest school/college, where the necessary criteria are met.

The Royal Borough take the view that whilst students are free to attend any school/college for their chosen subject, financial assistance towards travel costs will only be provided where provision of that course is more than 3 miles from a student's home and financial assistance will only be given for travel to the nearest school or college providing that course.  The Royal Borough does not differentiate between schools or colleges when assessing course provision.

To qualify for a free Travel Pass, the student must meet the following criteria:

  • The student must be a resident of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
  • A pass will only be given where the school/college site is more than 3 miles from the student's home, measured by the shortest walking distance.
  • Student should attend the nearest school/college offering their chosen course or, in the opinion of the Royal Borough, its equivalent.
  • In the event of a course being unavailable within 3 miles, students must still apply to the nearest provision within the zones 1 or 2 London Transport region.
