Open for business

After three years of meticulous construction work Exhibition Road was opened officially on Wednesday 1 February 2012 by Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London.

A parade led by the Mayor of London, the Mayors of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the City of Westminster London and the Leaders of the both councils walked along the striking new single surface road. The Welsh Guards' Band, acrobats and a mechanical elephant entertained the crowds.

Outside Imperial College the Mayor cut the ribbon held by four ambassadors of Whizz-Kidz, a young peoples' mobility charity who were consulted on accessibility at the beginning of the project.
