Temporary closure of Glendower Place and Old Brompton Road (eastbound)

3 September 2009

Following the successful unravelling of part of the one-way system around South Kensington last month opening up Thurloe Place (between Cromwell Road and Exhibition Road) to two-way traffic, as well as closing Thurloe Street to traffic at the junction with Thurloe Place, Kensington & Chelsea Council is preparing for some temporary traffic changes scheduled for the area.

From 14 September Glendower Place and Old Brompton Road (just eastbound between Bute Street and Glendower Place) will be closed to traffic for approximately six weeks in order to accommodate roadwork improvements being carried out as part of the wider South Kensington traffic management scheme for a more pedestrian friendly two-way layout.

The road closures are required to allow the existing traffic islands at either end of Glendower Place to be removed to accommodate the new road layout. Pedestrian access will be maintained to shops and premises at all times whilst the work is underway and the diversion route for motorists will be via Queen’s Gate Mews and Harrington Road.

Some provision for loading will be provided within the work areas. However, if you normally take deliveries from Old Brompton Road please inform your suppliers that they should approach from the East (Onslow Square) since it will be easier for large vehicles to exit the area if they approach from this direction.

Please take care to observe all public notices fixed to lamp columns and posts that will advise of any parking and loading restrictions in place.
