Incidents of violence are fairly low in this borough, but as in any other part of the capital, young people can be victims of assault and robbery. Read our safety tips.

If you find yourself in a threatening situation:

  • try not to talk in an aggressive or provocative manner
  • shout or scream 'no' and call the police
  • try not to panic - if you stay in control, you are more likely to stay safe
  • remember you don't own anything that is worth getting hurt for

You can join a self-defence class where instructors will teach you basic techniques to defend yourself.

Make sure you join a recognised class. Get details from your local sports or leisure centre, or through the Yellow Pages.
