The UN Convention on the rights of the child is a list of
articles covering different aspects of your life. It applies to
everyone under 18 years old:
- whatever race you are
- whichever language you speak
- whether you are male or female
- whether you are disabled or able bodied
- whatever colour you are
- whatever your background is
- whichever religion you follow
The Government should do its best to make sure that sure that your
rights are respected. This includes protecting you and making sure
that your best interests are considered when any big decisions are
made.
Article 12
One of the most important parts of the Convention is Article 12,
which says that you have the right to participate in making
decisions which will affect your life. This might be within school,
your community or your family.
There are many ways that you can get involved with your
community in Kensington and Chelsea and a great place to start is
in one of our youth forums!
