I’m Kirsty, I am fifteen, and I am the Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) for Kensington and Chelsea. I aim to get all young people’s voices heard fairly and to really make a difference for them.

Politics is everywhere!

It’s so easy to think of politics as something that happens in faraway rooms and doesn’t affect your life- but in these times, it’s dangerous to think like that. Politicians decided recently that 16-18 year olds wouldn’t get their EMA to stay in college. Politics also decide:

  • whether your youth club stays open or not,
  • at what age you’re allowed to have a job,
  • what films and music you can buy and listen to,
  • what schools you can go to,
  • and if there’s a streetlight on your corner!

The point is, young people need a person to stand up for them, their interests and their communities.  This is exactly what I’ll be doing in 2011. There’s the RBKC Youth Forum which discuss how we can make things better for young people in the borough.  There are other MYPs across London and the country that campaign nationally on your behalf, just like real Parliament.

So get in touch, help us represent you as best as possible, and let’s build a better future for youth.

News for Summer

Save Our Youth Service

As you may have notice many youth service are being hit hard by the cuts but our youth service in Kensington and Chelsea has been lucky so far. So we are going to implement a scheme to help the borough’s youth service when it comes to crunch time.

Trips attended by the Youth Forum and MYPs

This summer the Youth Forum went on a residential to help further their skills in the Youth Forum, it was a trip for training but they also had fun whilst doing it! Many in the Youth Forum understand how to communicate better to other people, how to discipline themselves to work, and how to be a successful leader.

This year there are many meetings for UKYP in the London Region to help us move forward into the right direction. We aim to attend every single one of these Regional Meetings in order to help us take Kensington and Chelsea into the brighter future.

We are also going to visit all the Youth Club in Kensington and Chelsea in order to help promote UKYP, Youth Forum and us as MYPs in the following weeks of July. We hope to see you soon and hope you will feel free to contact us at anytime with any query you have.

Online surgery

It’s our job to be aware of issues that affect young people in the borough, and situations you would like others to be aware of.

We are also here to support and campaign on your behalf. Write your comment or question in the box below, and we will respond to it as soon as we can.

  • if there’s anything going on in your area that you want people to know about,
  • if there’s something you want to ask us,
  • or if there’s something you want us to pass on to the politicians,
  • anything goes!

As your MYPs, it is important for us to know how well you think we are representing you. Please take a few seconds to feed back at the bottom of this form.  Thank you.
