This pledge has been developed with young people. It aims to inform young people about what they can expect from our Youth Support and Development Service.

Young people can expect:

Safe and warm

  • a safe, warm, well-equipped meeting place within half an hour’s travel from home, which is accessible to young people at the times defined by young people

Variety of activities

  • a wide diversity of youth clubs, projects and youth activities operating on youth work values and principles and providing opportunities to participate in personal and social development activities
  • a varied programme of activities including arts, drama, music, sport, residential and international experiences
  • opportunities to participate in voluntary action, work experience and training

Advice and information

  • a comprehensive confidential information, advice and counselling service with satellite services available in youth centres
  • a healthy options approach to the provision of refreshments in centres and at youth events

Opportunities

  • opportunities for young people to be involved in the ongoing development of services
  • opportunities for young people to become involved in local and national democracy
  • opportunities for young people to be involved in ensuring the quality of youth services through an annual youth satisfaction questionnaire and mystery shopping exercises
  • opportunities for young people to participate in programmes which offer accreditation for learning such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Recognition

  • recognition and reward for young people’s active involvement

Inclusiveness

  • a commitment to equal access to all Youth Support and Development Service  activities with no tolerance to bullying
  • a comments, complaints and suggestions process that is accessible to young people
