Cycling Road Races

A view from the crowdsA medal win for Team GB in the women’s cycling road!

Spectators lined the streets on the weekend of the 28 and 29 July to watch the Cycling Road Races, with the men’s race taking place on the Saturday and the women’s on the Sunday.  The race route in the borough covered Knightsbridge, Brompton Road and Fulham Road.  The gold medal for the men’s race, which covered a 250 km /156 miles route, went to Alexandr Vinokurov from Kazakhstan.  The silver medal went to Rigoberto Uran Uran from Colombia and bronze to Alexander Kristoff from Norway.

The women's race gave Team GB their first medal win of the Games, with Elizabeth Armitstead taking the silver.  The gold medal was won by Marianne Vos from the Netherlands and the bronze medal went to Olga Zabelinskaya from the Russian Federation.
