Leighton House Museum has carried out regional and national learning projects with organisations such as the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Museums, Libraries and Archive Council (MLA). Many of these initiatives are now classified as case studies of good practice within the museum and gallery sector.

Stories of the World: London World City

Leighton House Museum and its sister museum 18 Stafford Terrace make up a total of 59 museums and galleries across the UK that have been selected to be part of the official Cultural Olympiad 2012. Our museums worked with 14 to 20 year olds to create new drama and film inspired by the museums' collections.

Youth Residency: Young people at risk of exclusion

In 2006, Leighton House Museum worked with young people between the ages of 15 and 18 who had recently arrived in the UK from conflict zones in other parts of the world. The young people created a short film for their peer group based on their interpretations of Leighton House Museum. The project was nominated for a national Museums and Heritage Award and is an MLA case study of good practice.

Shared Heritages

In 2006 Leighton House Museum participated in the UK wide Festival of Muslim Cultures which was a celebration of the rich cultural and artistic expressions of Muslim peoples within the UK and around the globe. In conjuction with a comprehensive schools and public programme, Leighton House Museum created the website Leighton and the Middle East.
