Support a Production
Since the launch in 2009, our Production Syndicates have raised
over £105,000, making a significant difference to the scale and
quality of all aspects of the staging. The additional funding has
helped OHP to cast particular artists, increase the chorus size and
give more time for both stage and orchestral preparation.
By joining a Syndicate you will be contributing directly to a
specific production, helping to improve the overall production
whilst enjoying the opportunity to experience each stage of the
creative process at close hand, from planning to performance.
Production Syndicate members generously donate £3,000 or more;
couples are welcome to join as full members for a single donation.
Alternatively, you can join both syndicates for a donation of
£5,000 or more.
In 2013 we will be supporting two very exciting but different
operas: Madama Butterfly and I gioielli della
Madonna.
Madama Butterfly
Puccini’s tale
of tragedy and sorrow is a well-known story of the doomed love of
Cio-Cio San, a young Japanese girl, and the American Naval Officer,
Lieutenant Pinkerton. The differing cultures and attitudes to
love inspired some of Puccini’s most beautiful music, including the
opera’s most famous aria ‘un bel dì’.
Extra funding from the Production Syndicate
will make a difference to the production in a number of ways, such
as the quality of the costumes and sets, and in the casting of
singers and the production team.
I gioielli della Madonna
‘The
Jewels of the Madonna’, an opera written by Wolf-Ferrari in
1911 but first performed in Italy in 1953, divulges the realities
of bustling Neapolitan street life in all its glory. Amidst
the lively celebrations of the festival of the Madonna, the love
rivalry between Gennaro, a blacksmith, and Rafaele, the leader of
the Camorra, vie for the attentions of the adopted Maliella, with
tragic consequences.
Additional funding for this production will specifically help
towards a much larger chorus of over 40 singers and will also
enable OHP to take on performers to fill the high number of
different roles. The production also requires a band to perform on
stage in addition to one of the largest orchestras at OHP.
