Local Safeguarding Children Board
An introduction to the training programme 2009 - 2010
This programme has been commissioned by the Training and
Workforce Development Sub-committee on behalf of the Kensington and
Chelsea Local Safeguarding Children Board.
The aim of our training programme is to facilitate a
multi-agency approach and bring together professionals from
statutory and voluntary agencies working with children, young
people and their families in Kensington and Chelsea and to share
and develop skills and knowledge to build a cohesive children’s
workforce in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of
children.
The training programme is intended for anyone whose work brings
them into contact with children and young people and caters for
different levels of intervention that is required by professionals.
Our half day child protection briefing is designed for all staff
that need to be able to recognise situations where a child may be
at risk of harm and be aware of the procedure for responding to
concerns about child abuse and neglect.
For those who work directly with families and children where
implementing child protection policies and procedures are part of
their role we have a two-day course programme on Safeguarding
Children: An introduction to working within Kensington and Chelsea,
which practitioners must attend.
Other courses we have as part of the programme for practitioners
dealing with specialist areas are:
- Substance Misuse and Child Protection
- Responding to Domestic Violence in the Family
- Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Awareness
- Mental Health and Parenting
- Understanding the Importance of Your Contribution at
Inter-Agency Meetings
The LSCB Training and Workforce Development Sub-Committee meet
regularly to review the courses we commission to ensure quality and
where necessary, respond to national and local needs and
imperatives. As a result, the programme is continually renewed.
However, your views count. If you have any suggestions on how we
can improve our programme we would welcome your thoughts.
We hope you find this year’s programme relevant, interesting and
challenging. If you have any questions or queries please contact
us.
