Best for: Top end designer fashion.
The world famous Harrods department
store with its lavish interior and over 300 departments is a ‘must
see’, particularly at Christmas. If you’re into designer fashion
Harvey
Nichols is another must, as is the array of
international designer fashion houses including Gucci,
Dior,
Prada and Louis
Vuitton in Sloane Street. Further down Brompton
Road on the south side you will find Beauchamp
Place (pronounced Beecham) an oasis of traditional
small shops. From Knightsbridge it’s a short walk to relax by the
Serpentine lake in Hyde Park.
Specialist shops: Rigby and Peller the
bespoke lingerie shop in Hans Road beside Harrods, McKenna and Co fine antique and
period jewellery, Nespresso
Club and antiquarian map shop The Map House in Beauchamp Place,
and kitchen shop and cookery school Divertimenti further down on
Brompton Road.
People spotting: Russian oligarchs and Saudi
Royals, old money, surviving Sloane Rangers and the generally
well-heeled.
Trivia: Knightsbridge takes its name from a
bridge that crossed the Westbourne River which is now underground,
although there are various lurid stories of knights being
killed here as well.
