One of Chelsea China's famous works
The Nurse is an example of the fine china figures produced at the Chelsea Porcelain Works. The early history of the Chelsea works cannot be traced but consensus of opinion is that it was sited in Lombard Street, probably in part of Monmouth House, and was founded by French craftsmen in the early 1740s. Today at auction sales Chelsea pieces, especially those with the red or gold anchor marks, command very high prices.
