Dear Stewart
I forgot to ask you today whether, by a most improbable chance, you know of any opening however humble for a young Italian who has been a Courier, writes a good hand (see enclosed) & knows French. He is the son of a picture dealer in Rome & the nephew of a man once my servant who has risen in the world as a dealer & done well for his family besides becoming Mayor of his village. It appears that affairs have been very dull lately, & this young man thinking (rightly) that a knowledge of English would be very useful, has come (wrongly) to England on a wild spec. to learn the language - & there he now is - penniless & appealing to me to get him a situation - he wants to help somewhere, anywhere - he does not care what as long as he earns bread whilst he pick up the language! But what on earth can I advise? I want to try something - but I repeat, what??? Can you think?
Yours sincerely always
Fred Leighton
