MakerIn January 1980, 18 Stafford Terrace and its contents were sold by Anne Countess of Rosse to the Greater London Council (GLC) who were able to purchase the house with the aid of a grant by the National Land Fund. Shortly afterwards the house was ed to the public with the Victorian Society agreeing to run it as a museum on behalf of the GLC. Following the abolition of the Greater London Council in 1985, responsibility for 18 Stafford Terrace passed to the London Residuary Body and in xxxx to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in conjunction with The Victorian Society. In January 2001 the Victorian Society handed over the keys of Linley Sambourne House to the Royal Borough who then took over total responsibility for the house and its collections.
The house was for refurbishment in the autumn of 2000. This was funded in part by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The house re-ed in spring 2003 with visitor facilities and a new education centre in the basement.
