GRENFELL JOINT STRATEGIC NEEDS ASSESSMENT pdf icon PDF 141 KB

Minutes:

At the Chair’s invitation, Jeff Lake, the Bi-Borough Deputy Director of Public Health, Muskaan Khurana, Head of Heath Equity and Engagement, and Alicia Williams, Senior Public Health Strategist, introduced the report and raised the following points:

1.    The production of a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) is a statutory responsibility of the HWBB and provides a summary of the health and wellbeing status of the community.

2.   In response to the Grenfell Tragedy a focused needs assessment for North Kensington was carried out and published in 2018. In 2024, the needs assessment is being refreshed, following an 18-month engagement and consultation with key stakeholders and impacted communities.

3.    The full version was available online and the final version will be uploaded following ratification from the Board.

Joe Philp, Assistant Director of Grenfell Partnerships, added that phase two of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry report would be published on 4 September 2024 and acknowledged how significant this would be for the community. He asked to hear what support NHS colleagues could provide and highlighted the significant decisions to come around the decision about the Tower site and any memorial.

NHS partners shared that they were talking to communities about what services and support they would like during publication of the report. They would also use the evidence from the JSNA Refresh to inform the future services and support.

The Board were asked to provide feedback in relation to the three sections of recommendations provided to them in a presentation for discussion. Feedback is summarised below and will be incorporated into the action plan.

1.    Regarding the recommendations to support the immediate local community, the Board suggested adding what success support will look like and how this will be measured.

2.   . Regarding the recommendations to support the broader population, the Board recognised the wider issues around inequalities, and the ongoing challenges with access and acceptability of services, and how to make them more equitable.

3.    Regarding the recommendations on supporting survivors and those bereaved, the Board noted the importance of really listening and responding as far as possible to residents when they say something does not work.

The Board accepted the report and agreed and committed to embedding the recommendations of the report to deliver the ambitions of the health and wellbeing strategy 2023-2033.
