Consultation on proposals for a temporary park

Background
The Council has been working with Catalyst to develop proposals for improvements to what is being called the ‘temporary park’ at Athlone Gardens. The green space will change shape and expand over time as the regeneration project progresses until the full final park is delivered.

The design proposals have been developed with the results of previous consultations in mind, and they deliver a number of the key aspirations for the park identified in those consultations. Please click here to see the design proposals.

The proposals for the temporary park seek to introduce features that will serve the community now and into the future. As the green space grows there will be further detailed consultation on how the park will take shape (including the tree planting scheme). At this stage we wish to share with you the proposals for the temporary park and get your views on elements that will influence the look and feel of the space.

Next Steps
We want to deliver these improvements as soon as possible so that the local community can enjoy the space. The consultation will run from Wednesday 31 October until Wednesday 21 November, and once we have the results we will confirm the preferred options and move into delivery mode.

Our target is to complete the works during Spring 2019.

Furniture style

There is the option to go for a classic ‘Victoriana’ style of furniture or a more modern contemporary feel.  See example images below:

Furniture material

We propose placing seating and litter bins across the site at suitable locations.  These locations may change as the space grows and depending on how the space is used. There is the option to go for timber, metal or concrete, see example images below:

Planting - trees

We propose planting a feature tree in the playground which will offer some shade and colour.  The choices below have been selected for their suitability in this context.  The below are examples of trees that could be selected (images are numbered with further information on each tree below).
