The Royal Coronation 2023

Supporting vulnerable residents

With Big Lunch celebrations key to the King’s Coronation weekend, the Council worked closely with the Over 50s Forum and the Volunteer Centre Kensington and Chelsea to host an event for over 300 of the borough’s older and more vulnerable residents at the Town Hall.

Decorations and cakes were donated from Peter Jones and local businesses and the Volunteer Centre Kensington and Chelsea, as well as local cadet force groups including Chelsea and Fulham Sea Scouts, police and fire cadets, girl guides and scouts looked after the 300 guests and carers alongside councillors and Lead Members, serving food and drinks and chatting with guests throughout the fun afternoon’s events.

Hosted ably by Cllr Gerard Hargreaves, and with musical entertainment from the brilliantly energetic West End Musical Choir, guests enjoyed renditions of Abba’s ‘Mamma Mia’ hits to Disney via ‘Sister Act’ and Tina Turner. The atmosphere in the room was electric, with many guests dancing in the aisles or in their chairs!

Leader of the Council Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, the Mayor of 2022 to 2023, Cllr David Lindsay, alongside MPs Felicity Buchan and Greg Hands thanked volunteers and organisers for their planning and work on the day.

To close, guests joined together for the National Anthem before departing.
