London’s leading free-to-attend science festival took place from 7 to 26 October 2017
Kensington and Chelsea has a proud and distinguished history as a place where world-leading science research, practice and collection happens.
The Community Science Programme (formerly called Celebration of Science), brings the importance, relevance and wonder of science to local residents and other interested audiences, and provides a friendly and inclusive discussion of current themes in popular science.
All events were free to attend.
The majority of events took place at the Mayor’s Parlour at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, W8 7NX.
Speakers and presenters
Our speakers and presenters included: Professor Sanjeev Gupta, Professor Lord Julian Hunt, Angela Saini, Dame Mary Archer, Dr Roger Tabor, Dr Helen Czerski and many other skilled science communicators and professionals from research, policy, journalism and teaching.
Partners, outreach and aims
Working with distinguished local partners and complementing many of the Council’s outreach programmes, we aimed to attract those who have never previously attended a science event or for whom ‘science’ is something they haven’t consciously engaged with for some time.
The programme strived to create science champions, whose role is to stimulate an interest in science within their local communities.
