Notes Leighton House was the home and studio of Frederic, Lord Leighton, the great nineteenth century classical painter and president of the Royal Academy.

The house, designed by George Aitchison, was built between 1864 and 1879. It expresses Leighton's vision of a private place devoted to art, combining collections of high Victorian art and Islamic art with the atmosphere and intimacy of a private home.

The house incorporates dramatic ebonised woodwork, gilded decoration and fine mosaic floors, together with Persian carpets, rich fabrics and a stunning array of William de Morgan tiles.

In the evenings Leighton House is available for hire from 6.30pm for concerts, lectures, weddings, receptions and other private functions. Prices vary depending on the nature of the event, telephone for details.

The House accommodates
150 people for receptions or fork buffets,
60 people for formal dinners and
100 for concerts.

There is a choice of four in-house caterers.

Amplified music and dancing are not permitted.
