Grey drawing of people

Christy Burdock

Floating with Bunting

'This work references a community of people in a private gentlemen's club in St James, who have a connection to the military and a deep love for the Queen. The national anthem is sung frequently at events such as Trafalgar Day and other pivotal days throughout the year, toasts made and general positivity and joy is in the air when the Queen’s name is mentioned.

From left to right in a clockwise direction are two club members from military families, then the housekeeper cleaning the bunting, myself, an admiral who was in charge of the Royal Yacht Britannia prior to them both being retired, a financial director who sailed frequently and had a father who had been in the navy, a colonel who now worked within the civil service, a Scandinavian girl who enjoyed the delights of London night life and lastly, two club members who came from military families.'

Christy studied at the Royal College of Art in South Kensington, exhibits her work at Green and Stone Gallery in the borough, and draws in Kensington and Chelsea. This work was exhibited at The Baltic as part of the New Contemporaries exhibition and at Bolton Museum where it won the John Purcell Award. It is one of her most successful and treasured pieces.
