Our Multi Agency Good Practice Events offer a chance a for a wide range of professionals from multiple services and settings to come together and share effective strategies for supporting children and young people with SEND.

The Westminster Training and Outreach Service delivers special educational support and training to professionals in a wide-range of related services. They have expertise in areas covering:
- autism spectrum disorders (ASD);
- occupational therapy;
- visual impairment;
- hearing impairment;
- speech, language and communication needs (SLCN);
- and inclusion
Bespoke support and training can also be offered to schools following a self-referral. This can be for tailored information sessions or specific advice regarding a child at your school with SEND. Referral forms can be downloaded here.
The Autism and Early Intervention Team offers training and guidance to help support children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in the school setting.
This training is delivered as part of a rolling programme repeated throughout the year. It aims to meet the needs of new staff and to consolidate and update existing good practice as well as provide a forum for sharing ideas and approaches beyond your own setting.
This is also an opportunity to keep practitioners informed of new developments within autism and social communication needs.

Training on supporting children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in mainstream schools or early settings is available as part of a joint offer by Central London Community Healthcare Trust and Westminster Training and Outreach Service.
The offer includes training on identifying and supporting children with communication needs, Makaton courses, and creating a more communication-friendly learning environment. A whole-setting approach is used and there are also a number of training programmes available that focus on wider social, emotional and mental needs, which may be the underlying cause of the speech, language and communication needs.

NHS Early Years SLT Basic Introductory Course
NHS Early Years SLT run an introductory couse to speech and language development aimed at early years pracitioners. It is split into six courses:
Course 1 - Foundation Training: This course provides an essential introduction to speech, language and communication development from birth to five years of age. Download the flyer here
Course 2 - When To Refer To Early Years SLT: This course provides practical advice and guidance on when and how to refer to the Early Years SLT service children who need further support with their Speech, Language and Communication skills. Download the flyer here
Course 3 - Learning Language in Small Groups in Early Years Settings: Practical ideas for planning and running small group activities to develop children’s language and communication skills. Download the flyer here
Course 4 - Learning Language in Small and Large Groups: Practical ideas for running small and large group activities to develop all children’s language and communication skills. Download the flyer here
Course 5 - Monitoring Children’s Speech, Language & Communication Skills: Practical advice and guidance on how to use the Early Years SLT Service monitoring tool to track the development of children’s Speech, Language and Communication skills. Download the flyer here
Course 6 - Creating Communication Supportive Environments in Early Years Settings: A practical introduction to creating a learning environment in the early years that supports listening, speaking, understanding and communication with others through looking at the physical and learning environment, the use of visuals and routines. The SLT team have developed a new telephone advice service for practitioners who would like any advice from an Early Years Speech and Language Therapist, such as:
- interaction strategies
- accessing training
- creating communication supportive environments

Our SLA for Schools: The EPCS offers a large range of training to schools promoted through our Schools SLA and through our school link EPs. We encourage schools to think about additional services they would like that relate to child and educational psychology and to request bespoke packages to suit their school development needs. We also encourage schools to think about joining with other schools to buy in traded time around a particular topic such as transitions, early years, high functioning ASD pupils or a particular aspect of research.
Other EPCS training is offered through the wider Schools CPD Programme 2018-19 coordinated through the Bi-borough’s Schools Standard Team.
Our ELSA training: This 5 day nationally evaluated scheme ‘The Emotional Literacy Support Assistant’ (ELSA) training has been run by the EPCS for 4 years now. The course covers a range of evidence based early intervention strategies including: Anger Management, Social Stories, Therapeutic Stories, Friendship Skills, and self-esteem boosting which can then be delivered to small groups and individuals in a school context. The training has a strong psychological underpinning covering a range of models. Appropriate for TAs and Learning mentors working in mainstream and specialist primary and secondary schools. ELSA’s also receive high quality group supervision every half term from an Educational Psychologist as part of the one off payment for the course.
VIG: NEW for 2018 – 19! We are delighted to let you know that we now have several Video Interaction GuidanceTM (VIG) practitioners as part of the EP team who can offer VIG to school settings through our SLA. This is an intervention through which a VIG practitioner and client (parent/carer/professional) reflect together on video clips of their own successful interactions. VIG is based on theories of attachment, cooperative ‘Inter-subjectivity’ (developing shared understanding) and mediated learning and is recommended as an evidence based Intervention by Public Health England (2015) and NICE Guidelines (2015). Please contact the EPCS directly for more information.
Recovery and Resilience Booklet: As we mark the two year anniversary since the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the Bi-borough EPCS has developed a Recovery and Resilience resource booklet for schools affected by Grenfell. The booklets provide information and practical advice for staff in relation to how to cope with stress related to anniversaries of traumatic incidents and how to support children over the anniversary period.
The Bi-Borough Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme offers diverse training opportunities to support delivery of a world class education in our schools. These courses have been designed to deepen subject knowledge and support those leading subjects across the primary school curriculum and includes training relevant to the support of children with SEND. There are courses and good practice networks designed to support the development of everyone from pre-NQT through to system leader.

Bi-Borough SENCO Networks
A list of SENCO Network Meetings for the year 2019/20 can be found below. All meetings run from 13.30-16.00, and will be held at Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee School.

RBKC SENCO Forums
Dates for the RBKC SENDCO Forum tend to be set a term in advance to allow for flexibility in the hosting school. Dates for the RBKC SENCO Forum for the year 2019/20 will be set shortly. Please check back for details once arrangements have been finalised.
St Quintin's Centre for Disabled Children offers training for carers on short breaks programmes.
The training runs as a series of sessions across the year. The topics of the training days include:
- Understanding of learning and disabilities, including supporting challenging behaviour, personal care, and sensory processing
- Makaton training and engaging with children
- First-aid, risk asessment and fire evaluation
- Safeguarding, and data protection
- Help dealing with difficult situations, building reslience, and stress-management
- Equality, diversity and mental health awareness

The Tri-Borough Alternative Provision (TBAP) CPD Pathways are a series of 2-hour specialist training sessions running throughout the year. They are led by specialist practitioners, skilled in working with young people with additional social, emotional and mental health needs.
Training available includes specific pathways on Behaviour and SEND
Bespoke behaviour training packages are also available for schools and 1-2 day whole school behaviour reviews can be delivered on request. For more information on these options, contact the TBAP Teaching School Alliance by sending an email to email@example.com.
The Cheyne Child Development Service run annual training days for staff at children’s centres, nurseries and schools around identifying children with developmental needs. These are free to attend for any professional working in Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea or Hammersmith and Fulham.
