Ofsted rate our Children's Services as one of the best in the country
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s Children's Services are amongst the very best in the country according to Ofsted who inspected the department in January 2016.
In the report, published Tuesday 29 March, Ofsted inspectors looked at all areas of the service, giving four out of five the highest grade possible, Outstanding - along with our neighbours in Westminster, the first to receive this level in the current cycle of inspections.
The inspectors were so impressed they said: “Services for children and young people in Kensington and Chelsea are outstanding because they are resourced, planned and delivered by an exceptional workforce, ably supported by the talented senior leadership team and strong governance structure.
“Good social work flourishes in Kensington and Chelsea. Positive characteristics of the exceptionally wide range of services available include consistently comprehensive and analytical assessments of need, detailed plans of intervention to help families achieve positive change and unfailing management of scrutiny and oversight.”
In summarising the service for children and young people the inspectors felt that: “If you are a child who needs help and protection or to be looked after, this is one of the best places in the country to live.”
Nicholas Holgate, Town Clerk, said: "It is a simply marvellous achievement that Children’s Services have won this recognition from OFSTED: it is an entirely deserved accolade for the many staff who work so hard on behalf of the most vulnerable children in the borough and for the inspirational leadership of Andrew Christie, Clare Chamberlain and their colleagues. This is exactly what this borough stands for.”
