Homework Club is a free service which supports primary school children with their homework in a calm and encouraging atmosphere. The ethos has been described as half-way between the discipline of school and the informality of home, and although independent learning is encouraged, children who find some aspects of the national curriculum challenging are given the individual help they need and care is taken to explain clearly, concepts learnt at school.
All children must be registered with the RPT Junior Club and must commit to regular attendance. Sessions are held three times a week, on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 3.30pm to 5.00 pm. When the homework has been completed satisfactorily, children join in with the Junior Club which runs in parallel to the Homework Club. In this way, children prosper from focused academic support and the therapeutic disciplines of organised play.
The co-ordinator of the Homework Club is an experienced English and primary school teacher and RPT tutors are drawn from a broad range of professional and academic backgrounds.
