Health Visiting Services

Last Updated 12/04/2019

The teams comprise of Health Visitors who are qualified nurses who hold additional specialist public health qualification. They work with a skill mix team to provide services to children, young people and families within various community settings and visits to the home (following the birth of a child).

The Health Visiting Services have an insightful influence on the lifelong health and wellbeing of young children and their families and so they support families during the crucial early years of a child’s life (0-5years) by helping parents learn and develop the skills required to bring up their children, and our team of health visitors help give the new generation the best possible start in life. They work with parents, their families, and community groups to promote the health and wellbeing of children between the antenatal period and the child's 5th year of age.

The teams lead on the delivery of the elements of the Healthy Child Programme (a universal preventative service, providing families with a programme of screening, immunisation, health and development reviews, supplemented by advice around health, wellbeing and parenting) in partnership with other health and social care colleagues.

In order to benefit from these preventative and early interventions services, it is crucial parents and their children attend the 8-15 month and 2-2.5 year Health and Development Reviews.
