Society & Change National Saturday Club @ the National Army Museum

Join us for our weekly National Saturday Club sessions, where young people can consider how art, culture and memory shape attitudes towards war and conflict.

How do nations remember conflict? Who do they remember and why? What is the role of museums in displaying conflict? Consider all these questions and more at the National Army Museum.

Members of our Society & Change National Saturday Club will focus on the role that museums play in displaying conflict and how this shapes attitudes towards war. They will be introduced to a range of artefacts, archival materials and artwork, and will consider how these can be used to engage the public with a range of stories and experiences.

Over the course of several weeks, club members will have the opportunity to create their own artistic responses to the source materials. Covering themes of victory, defeat, sacrifice, remembrance and forgetting, young people will be able to reflect on contemporary conflicts and how they might be portrayed in the ‘museums of the future’.

National Saturday Club sessions will include a range of engaging external visits. Club members also get to take part in National Saturday Club events including Masterclasses with leading industry professionals and the Summer Show, where Saturday Clubs nationwide exhibit their work in a public exhibition – all for free!
