Cleaning after Carnival
A team of street cleaners, refuse staff and waste managers along with a huge fleet of some 30 vehicles lead the clean-up of rubbish each night from the main Carnival area.
This clear-up can begin only once the Police has allowed SUEZ access to the Carnival area. SUEZ has a Contingency Plan in place to accommodate delayed access.
The clear-up involves clearing and cleansing the Borough’s streets as quickly and efficiently as possible. Priority is given to main roads and transport hubs, before concentrating on other areas.
SUEZ ensures that all streets are cleared during the night-time operation on Sunday and Monday. The rest of the week is spent polishing streets to the required standard. Any rubbish that appears on the streets after the clear-up (e.g. piles of litter from late parties & basement sweeps, & after toilets & stage removals) will be cleared during this time.
The barriers and signs will be removed from the area by the police and contractors in the week after the event.

A free cleaning service is offered for residents with a basement affected during Carnival.
This is not offered for free where Carnival-related activity or street trading has taken place. and Council officers record addresses of any such activity to determine eligibility for this service.
If you have had Carnival activity on your premises and want to register for a basement clean, charges are:
- Basic sweep, litter clearance: £30
- Including pressure wash: £75
