In June 2014, the Royal Borough’s Cabinet approved a budget of £1.1 million to re-configure part of the ground floor of Ellesmere House nursing and residential home in Chelsea. The home's operator, Care UK, managed the project on behalf of the Council and appointed Ruggles & Jeffrey Ltd as the main contractor. Works started on site in March 2015 and were completed in November 2015.
The project has converted the former Miranda Barry Day Centre (relocated to the St Charles Centre for Health and Wellbeing in September 2014) into a 20-bed nursing unit for frail elderly residents. The residents will be able to enjoy new facilities including:
- a cinema room
- an activity room
- refurbished dining area
- coffee lounge.
A new commercial unit has also be created on the Fulham Road frontage as the separate entrance to the home is no longer required.
