Generous Kensington and Chelsea residents have so far donated £20,000 from their winter fuel payments; however, more is needed to support those in need.
Kensington and Chelsea residents who receive the winter fuel payment, but feel they don’t need it, can donate theirs to neighbours in need. The Kensington and Chelsea Foundation co-ordinates donations to ensure they reach those who need them most.
So far, almost 80 donors have donated £20,000 worth of winter fuel payments – up from £19,000 the same time last year.
The number of donors has significantly increased, with 78 donors donating their winter fuel payment, compared with 57 donors in January 2017.
Cllr Mary Weale, Lead Member for Communities, said: “This is a fantastic way to start the new year, with a large number of residents generously donating their winter fuel payments to those in need.
“The Kensington and Chelsea Foundation has started receiving referrals as fuel bills from last autumn’s cold snap are arriving now.
“I strongly encourage residents to consider donating their winter fuel payment if they feel they don’t need it.
“Even a small donation can make a difference and 100 per cent of the money raised goes directly to neighbours in need.”
