Kensington and Chelsea Council leader, Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, has announced changes to her leadership team, effective from 20 May 2019.
Two councillors elected for the first time in the 2018 local elections have joined the leadership team, Cllr Cem Kemahli and Cllr Johnny Thalassites. Cllr Anne Cyron also steps into the crucial communities role, which will oversee the Grenfell recovery strategy and look at ways we can further strengthen our relationship with residents.
Cllr Emma Will has decided to step down from her role as lead member for families, children’s and schools after six years in the leadership team, and Cllr Will Pascall has been nominated by the majority group to become Mayor for the next civic year.
Cllr Elizabeth Campbell said: “We have so much to do, opportunities to grasp and challenges to face. I have increased the leadership team to ten and brought in some fresh faces with fresh ideas to help move us forward.
“We have created a portfolio that is focused on the Environment for a reason. It is one of the most important topics for our residents and something we will be really focussing on in the next three years – tackling bad air quality, reducing waste and plastic, and playing our role in addressing climate change.
“Property has moved into the housing portfolio – so we can better engage with residents on the provision of community spaces and what they want our communities to be. It also demonstrates that we are laser-focused on delivering more affordable housing in the borough.
“I want to say thank you to Emma who has done an incredible job delivering outstanding services for young people and supported schools in delivering excellent results year after year.
“I am very excited about bringing in Cem, Johnny and Anne, to join some very experienced members and we are very much looking forward to working with residents, with businesses, with councillors of all parties, and with each other, to deliver our Council Plan.”
