Few people will forget the amazing scenes that accompanied the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympic Games. One thing that shone through in both events was the role played by those who volunteered their time and expertise. Some of those who did so much to make this summer's events such a success were thanked by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea at the 2012 Community Volunteer Celebration.Over 125 awards were handed out at the event in the Mayor's Parlour on Wednesday 7 November. The awards were given to people who had organised Jubilee street parties, worked for the Exhibition Road Show and volunteered for the Olympic Games. The Mayor of the Royal Borough, Councillor Christopher Buckmaster, said: "The Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the fantastic spectacle of the Olympic Games will be remembered by many. Both events depended heavily on the tireless work of volunteers and it is very important that we acknowledge just how grateful we are as a borough to those who played such a vital role in these memorable events."
