The Drayton Arms, a south Kensington pub has scooped the coveted Best Bar None `Overall Winner' for 2012 at last night's (Wednesday 28 November) annual awards ceremony at a packed Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington. Beating off stiff competition to the overall title, in what the judges have said was the most competitive year to date, it was also named `Best Pub'. The pub has been a strong contender in Best Bar None since the competition began in 2008, being `Best Pub' runner up that year and overall winner in 2009. Councillor Nick Paget-Brown, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "The Best Bar None Awards have gone from strength to strength in the borough and it is good to see a pub that has been involved since the start taking the prize. Leigh Philips, the landlord of The Drayton Arms, also deserves credit for doing well every year and for being the first person to win the `Overall Winner' award for a second time. "This borough is a great place to visit and live, part of that is down to the quality of management in all our licensed premises. Accreditation through Best Bar None shows a commitment to high standards that appeals to residents and patrons of all the establishments involved."A further 47 pubs, bars and clubs across the borough gained membership of the scheme, with the category winners as follows:Best Pub runner-up - O'Neills, Earls Court Road, SW5 9BQBest Bar - Juju, King's Road, SW3 5UHRunner up - Janet's Bar, Old Brompton Road, SW7 3DLBest Club - Supperclub, Acklam Road, W10 5QZRunner up - The Roof Gardens, Kensington High Street, W8 5SABest Bar None in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is sponsored by Diageo GB with support from various partner agencies including NHS Kensington. To find out more about the scheme, and current members, go to www.rbkc.gov.uk/bestbarnone or call 020 7341 5708.
