Care to Learn

  • Are you under 20?
  • Are you pregnant or do you have a baby?
  • Are you thinking of continuing with school, training or work?
  • Are you finding it difficult to find childcare?

Care to Learn can help you pay for your childcare costs so that you can continue with your education, or enrol onto a training course.

What you will get

The grant helps with the cost childcare, including deposit and registration fees, childcare providers (such as childminders, pre school playgroups, day nursery and after school clubs) and keeping your child's place over school holidays.

Care to Learn pays up to:

  • £160 per child per week if you live outside of London
  • £175 per child per week if you live within London

How does it work?

The payments will go directly to childcare providers, but before they can receive these payments, your childcare provider needs to confirm that your child's attendance and your school/college needs to confirm your attendance on your course.

If you stop attending your course, you finish your course or your child stops attending childcare then these payments will also stop.

To be eligible for Care to Learn, you need to be:

  • a parent under 20 at the start of your course
  • the main carer for your child
  • living in England
  • either a British citizen or a national of a European Economic Area (EEA) country
  • studying a course that is publicly funded (check with your school or college)
  • sending your child to a childcare provider that is registered with Ofsted or the Care Quality Commission

Please note that you’re not eligible for Care to Learn if:

  • you’re an apprentice who gets a salary
  • you’re doing a higher education course at university
