A new library for North Kensington
Our current North Kensington Library is in an imposing listed building in a prime location on Ladbroke Grove, but as a library it is far from ideal. It is not an easy building for people with mobility difficulties, is spread over three floors which makes it difficult and expensive to operate and has a number of issues that will be costly to put right due to its protected status.
We can address these by moving to a new location which will enable us to deliver a modern library service. The existing building will generate much-needed revenue to support Council services during a period of great financial strain. For all these reasons we are proposing to build a bigger, better North Kensington Library just 50 or so metres away in Lancaster Road.
The new library will be:
- bigger in area and all on the same level.
- better designed for disabled people.
- more environmentally friendly.
- less expensive to manage and maintain.
We hope to open the new library in 2019 and the
current library will remain open until the new one is ready for use
.
The Council is keen to hear the views of library users, residents and local community and voluntary organisations on what they would like the new library to contain. We would be grateful if you could spare a few minutes to complete this survey. The closing date for responses is
Saturday
30 July 2016.
