Naturalist and author WH Hudson and his wife Emily moved to 40 St Luke's Road in 1888 after spending many years in Argentina. Although he disliked the house he remained there for the rest of his life. These were very productive years as he produced some 25 books, mainly on birds. Hudson was an early environmentalist and many of his views would still find favour with the Green movement.
